BREAKING: 5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Queensland

South-east Queensland residents are shocked by a magnitude-5.3 earthquake this morning. The areas that are affected with this quake are Yeppoon, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Geoscience Australia said the earthquake epicentre was offshore from eastern Queensland, 100 kilometres off Fraser Island in the Coral Sea, at a depth of 30 kilometres.

The earthquake authority says it is estimated the earthquake could have feel felt by people up to 206km away and could have caused damage up to 16km.

There is no tsunami threat to Australia as per the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre.

Earthquakes are not very common in Queensland and hence has left many residents shocked. The last quake happened in 1901.
