Summer is just around the corner, which means many Australians will be spending a lot more time in the great outdoors. This means many a day spent at the beach either surfing, swimming or just enjoying a lazy day and taking in some sun. Getting together with friends and family to cook up a storm on the BBQ or meeting up for picnics in the park are staples of Aussie summertime. While all of this is great, many of us may forget about the negative effects our beautiful sun and climate can have on our skin. So this summer, here are a few things to think about before you grab your beach towel or picnic hamper and head out for a day full of fun in the sun.
#1 Keep Hydrated
The Australian coastline is filled with unparalleled beauty, epic surf and extraordinary beaches that stretch for untold kilometers in either direction. While you are out there in the water or even just enjoying the beach, keeping hydrated is essential. It’s all too easy to get lost in a perfect day and let hours slip away having some beers with friends and forget about proper hydration. So make sure you have some electrolytes with you, either as a drink or in powder form to mix with water. Salt water and sun are awesome, but they wreak havoc on your skin and keeping hydrated can help quell the negative effects – every little bit helps.
#2 SPF and Moisturiser
Not all sunscreens are created equal and many of them out there on the market can do more harm than good in the end. So make sure that you choose a sunscreen that has healthy ingredients that work well with your skin. Keeping your skin moisturised will also go a long way in curbing the negative effects of our beautiful, yet harsh environment. So make sure to shop around this summer and find the right products to keep your skin healthy and protected while you enjoy the summer.
#3 Treat Existing Sun Damage
Even if you do everything you can as far as preventative maintenance, sun damage on your skin can still be a reality, especially if you spend most of your waking life outdoors. Thanks to massive innovations in the aesthetics industry, there are many options out there to treat the effects of the sun on your skin. A very popular treatment in the past was a chemical peel to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and discolouration. However in 2021 it’s all about laser skin treatments to address these issues. These cutting-edge treatments are far more effective in reducing the appearance of lines on the face and can be used for far more than just that. They can treat issues such as rosacea, spider, and varicose veins and can even address an unsightly birthmark. Not only that, but the downtime is minimal compared to chemical treatments. So if you have some existing sun damage or a few wrinkles you’d like to address – consider a laser skin treatment.
With all that said, summer is to many Australians the most fabulous time of year. So get out there and enjoy all the summer has to offer and consider these tips while you do!
