The Ukraine crisis has been going on for over two years now, and it is steadily escalating. And

with the recent military actions by Russia and the shooting down of a civilian plane, the war could have huge implications for the world as we know it. Many of you might be curious as to how it all began. This article will give you a rundown of the events that led to the war.

Control over Crimea:

It started as a civil war between pro-Russian separatists and those who wanted to remain in the Ukrainian government. But when Russian forces invaded the Crimean Peninsula and took over Crimea, it became an international problem.

In 1954, soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev handed over Crimea from the Russian soviet socialist republic to the Ukrainian soviet socialist republic. Crimea is a land of benefits – Military base, harbor, gas, coal, and many government buildings and institutions. Acquiring such a main region again is a huge gain for Russia and Putin wants Crimea again on the Russian map.

The United States and European Union imposed sanctions on Russia and tried to get it to withdraw its troops from the territory they had seized. Russia refused to back down and instead Russia began sending arms and troops into eastern Ukraine. While Western countries have tried to negotiate peace agreements in the region, nothing substantive has happened yet.

Decoding the man behind the attack:

Mr. Vladimir Putin, the notorious president of Russia since 2000 was a former KGB spy agent who was known for his ‘diminished sense of danger’ nature during his earlier detective days. He is a man of a highly secretive nature. Putin got married a few days before becoming the Russian President but he didn’t reveal this information even to his wife. It is clear that he is still the same as the Russian parliament had no clue that he was going to declare war on Ukraine until it happened. As he is the commander in chief of the Russian Military force, he asked permission in the Parliament under the plain pretext of sending troops to foreign lands. And all the hell broke loose!

Irrational reasons for Acquisition:

All facts show that major Ukrainians are of Russian ethnicity and Putin highlights that as a reason to join Ukraine and Russia. If we trace the hidden pages of history, Ukraine was forced to be that way. Banning the Ukrainian language in the schools and replacing it with Russian, putting Ukrainians to death by causing famine, and as damage control, Russians were made to populate the Ukrainian region.

If we take a look at the past ruling history of Ukraine, it was rarely a self-governing territory before its independence in 1991. Putin’s point is that this colonial imperialism of Ukraine for many years makes Ukraine automatically under Russia. But it is absurd. It is like the British demanding the ownership of South Africa just because they had ruled in the past. An officially independent country has all the rights to stay free despite any reason.

The world must stand against the destruction of innocent lives disguised under the act of making one country. Let all nations unite and crumble down this inadmissible act of cruelty.
