When you think of a winner, it is easy to think of the legends such as Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali. It is easy to associate winning with these world class athletes that have inspired millions and continue to do so. But what have these people done to be in this position? What makes them winners?
In the words of famous author/motivational speaker, Shiv Khera “winners don’t do different things, they do things differently”.
Winning state of mind
Without doubt, these people were talented. But no matter how talented you are, there is a limit to how far it can take you. The difference between a winner and a loser is a state of mind, and the winning state of mind can be applied to all facets of life.
Talent and skill
In order to be successful in life, you need to have a skill that you are passionate about. Put simply, a skill is the ability to do something well. There is no definition of what a skill can be, the possibilities are endless. However, one of the biggest misconceptions is the difference between talent and skill. Talent is a gift from birth. Skill is only developed through hard work and is completely dependent upon your work ethic. How far you take it, is up to you.
Strong Work Ethic
A strong work ethic is one of the biggest factors that separate winners and losers. A person can have all the talent in the world, but without a resilient work ethic, they will not develop the skills needed in order to be successful. A strong work ethic and the ability to stay motivated are two aspects of the winning mindset that aid each other.
A winner has a ‘why’. They have a reason why they do what they do in order to be successful. The ability to find a ‘why’ and create motivation is what separates winners and losers.
If a winner knows what they want, they go out and get it. A winner is prepared to take what life throws at them and keep moving forward. However, when life gets hard, losers look for something or someone to blame as to why they are not where they want to be.
In the words of the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ himself, Jordan Belfort, “The only thing standing between you and your dream is the bulls**t story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.” A person’s state of mind and attitude towards all facets of life is what separates the winners and the losers.
