Come along to celebrate National Recycling Week at the Recreate Twilight Market and Paper Fashion Show. On Friday 13th November 2015 between 4-9pm in King George Square, Brisbane.
This free event is presented by Brisbane City Council and VISY, one of Australasia’s largest recycling companies.
An essemble of 10 of Brisbane’s finest designers, including two of our 2014 Recycling Art Competition artists, Louise Lindgren and Hiroshi Uchida as well as The Wintergarden and BrisStyle Markets is coming together to support this local and important event.
This paper-themed Twilight Market and Paper Fashion Show is all about recognising Brisbane’s recycling efforts and inspiring even more recycling for a cleaner, greener city.
On average every Australian throws out about 800 kilograms of rubbish each year – a total of 16 million tonnes. This rubbish ends up in landfill, where it will take hundreds of thousands of years to break down.
Last year, Council recycled more than 91,400 tonnes from your recycling bins at home. These materials have been remade into all sorts of things, including packaging, parts of toys, bikes, cars and even trains. Although this is a great effort, we must do better to recycle more and stop wasting valuable resources that end up in landfill.
Why not head down to view and admire these fantastic artists, or participate in FREE paper craft activities. Who knows you may get inspiration, with what you could achieve in recycling that empty plastic bottle or last week’s gossip magazine.
After browsing the BrisStyle market stalls of handmade artisan wares, you could stop off and take some time out at one of few food trucks – you won’t be disappointed.
If you are a music lover, you are in luck as The QUBE Effect bands will be there, folk-rock-psychedelic group Golden Age of Ballooning, progressive pop artist Holly Terrens and the darkly whimsical indie folk band Quintessential Doll.
It will a great evening, so don’t miss out on this free and very important event.
