7 Important SEO Tips for Your Website

SEO basics 2017

Before you sit down and start writing a great deal of content for your website, you have some choices to make. Think about what your site is going to be about, what the purpose is and how committed you are to what you are doing. Once you have settled on those three things, it’s time to get cracking.

  1. Update your website frequently

Sites with dynamic and vivacious content are often ranked higher than those with static and boring content. This is the reason why blogs and sites like Wikipedia do so well on search engines. They are constantly being updated with new content. Obviously don’t update your website for the sake of it with completely irrelevant and pointless stuff, but when you do you have some cool stuff to post, make sure you do, you will notice the difference.

  1. Link to other websites with relevant content

You can do this by including a blogroll, link list, or resources page on your website. Of course, this must be done sparingly, as each outbound link is a vote for another website. Although, if you do it well and people are going to your website and clinking on your links, this tells the search engine you are a trusted authority on your particular topic.

  1. Have other website link to you

This one is really, really important when it comes to SEO. It just sucks because it isn’t something you can necessarily control. Other than making sure you create amazing content on your website, the only other thing you can do is ask others to be on their website which may not always work. But always start with excellent content, and go from there!

  1. Stop changing your domain name

The age of your URL plays a factor in your site’s search ranking, so be patient. If you are launching a new blog site every six months, you will never see your site get the value and appreciation it deserves and needs.

  1. Remove anything that slows down your website

Page load times are of key importance to visitors to your website, so get rid of any non-essentials that bog down your website. Things that may do this include music players, large images, flash graphics and unnecessary plugins.

  1. Make your website about one thing

It can obviously be about other stuff too, but choose one primary topic that is essential to what you are trying to convey to your customers. This step is probably the most important, so you probably want to do some keyword research before choosing a topic.
